Aboriginal Programs
At Cowra High School, we proudly support and celebrate Aboriginal culture through a range of dedicated programs designed to empower Aboriginal students and enrich the entire school community. Our programs provide cultural learning opportunities, academic support, and leadership development, fostering a strong sense of identity and connection. We collaborate closely with local Aboriginal Elders and community members to ensure our initiatives are respectful, meaningful, and reflective of Indigenous perspectives. Through cultural workshops, mentoring, and community events, we aim to create an inclusive environment where every student gains a deeper understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal heritage.

Wagambirra Dance group
Led by Isabel Coe, is where students learn to perform cultural dance, share the knowledge, mentor primary school students and visit many local schools and community events. The students learn more about their culture telling stories through dance.
Girri Girri
Girri Girri is a school based sports academy which was established to improve attendance, retention, literacy and engagement of Aboriginal students. The academy offers students a varied curriculum based on local needs. Cowra High School offers programs for junior and senior Aboriginal students where a partnership has been established with RAD Gym. This program teaches students the value of fitness, promoting healthy living and a healthy mind. Impact is measured around student attendance.
Wiradjuri Language
Taught by Erin Lambhead, is a recently added program to our curriculum providing students with the opportunity to learn the language that is linked to the town of Cowra. This has been endorsed and supported by the local Aboriginal Educational Consultative Group (AECG).
